Montecristo cigars likely got their name from Alexandre Dumas’ novel “The Count of Monte Cristo.” The company was founded in 1935 by Menendez and Garcia y Cia, then owners of H. Upmann, and was promoted in the market by Alfred Dunhill in London. It became the most popular Havana cigar brand and has since been a benchmark for all others. They have gained their reputation thanks to the technique used for the balanced blending of flavors. The company offers a wide range, including the most famous pyramid-shaped cigar, the Montecristo No. 2.
