On December 1, 2023, French musician Paul Montag sat at his piano, lit an Oliva Serie V Melanio Gran Toro, and unleashed a 45-minute burst of creative frenzy! “Music touches the human soul, while cigars allow us to experience a sense of fulfillment through introspection,” Montag stated in the press release. The idea for the collaboration emerged from a discussion between Montag and Fred Vandermarliere, CEO of Vandermarliere Cigar Family, about the introspective power of classical music and cigars. Hence the motto of Fred’s company: “Don’t smoke, but savor.”

Each Oliva cigar contains a piece of rich history that goes back many years to 1886 where Melanio Oliva cultivated tobacco in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. In the late 1950s, the grandson of the Gilberto Oliva family was forced to leave his homeland and go to Nicaragua. Gilberto’s insistence and constant search for the best tobacco led the 4th generation of the family to turn these quality tobacco into handmade premium-quality cigars. Then they joined forces with the Belgian Vandermarliere family, founders of J. Cortes, who shared the same struggle for cigars, tradition and family. Since then, the two grandsons of the families, Fred and Jose, are in the “steering wheel” keeping their traditions and supporting each other on both sides of the Atlantic.
