Description
The word “ukiyo” (浮世) comes from Japanese and literally means “the floating world” or “the transient world.” In traditional Japanese culture, the term originally referred to the Buddhist idea of the impermanence of life and the detachment from material goods.
However, during the Edo period (1603-1868), the term took on a more worldly and optimistic meaning, associated with the enjoyment of life and ephemeral pleasures. It was used to describe a lifestyle focused on art, entertainment, and the senses, as depicted in ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
Today, “ukiyo” is often linked to the idea of living in the moment and appreciating the beauty of the transient.
The classic “Tokyo Dry Gin” is the foundation of the Ukiyo Gin range. Featuring 11 botanicals such as Yuzu, Mikan, Sakura, and Sansho, it celebrates Japan’s rich terroir and the flavors of the Japanese harvest.
