Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon was created in 1984 by Elmer T. Lee as a tribute to Colonel Albert B. Blanton, the former president of the distillery. Colonel Blanton had a tradition of handpicking barrels from Warehouse H to entertain his guests, and Lee named the new bourbon after him. The use of Warehouse H, a metal warehouse constructed after the repeal of prohibition, contributed to the unique aging characteristics of Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon. The metal walls caused the bourbon to age differently, capturing the climate of Kentucky and allowing for a steady interaction with the oak. Elmer T. Lee had an outstanding career at the distillery, rising from an engineer to a plant manager. He played a significant role in the development and growth of the distillery before his retirement in 1985. Lee received numerous accolades and awards for his creativity and contributions to the bourbon industry. Colonel Albert B. Blanton, born in 1881, worked at the distillery from a young age and eventually became its president. Blanton adhered to the traditions of Kentucky bourbon production and was highly respected in the industry. A statue of Colonel Blanton stands at the distillery as a monument to his legacy.
